I’m generally not a fan of hip-hop takes on classic rock tracks, but this seems like it might actually turn out pretty awesome: the Wu-Tang Clan are actually going to record an interpretation of George Harrison’s immortal Beatles ballad on their upcoming LP, 8 Diagrams. The track, titled simply “Gently Weeps,” features the Clan acting out the saga of a heroine dealer and a heroin addict, which seems to suggest that the song will be devoid of the universally existential introspection that pervaded the original. Probably bad, but possibly good.

And while Eric Clapton won’t be contributing his famous solo to the track, the Wu have managed to get the next best thing: John Frusciante. And as if that wasn’t enough, they’ve managed to get Dhani Harrison – the 29-year-old son of George, and “the biggest Wu-Tang fan in the world,” if we’re to believe the RZA – to play acoustic. The album reportedly drops on November 13.

Friendly nod from across the bar to pitchforkmedia.com. And, just for the cool of it, here’s a LINK to George performing the song at the Concert for Bangladesh, 1971.
